Open source project monitoring.
Nearform manages a large and ever-growing number of open source projects (over 300!). They wanted a tool to ensure these projects followed best practices in areas like documentation, licensing, security, and legal compliance. This tool would help the team prioritize projects needing the most attention.
We started by defining all the checks needed and grouping them into categories. Each check received a weight based on its importance to the overall score and each individual score was combined for a total project rating.
The design focuses on clear visuals to identify projects needing attention. A card-based layout displays project information so that users can search and filter projects while still seeing all the associated details. Instead of using borders for separation, color and space is used to make the interface clean and easy to navigate.
It was important to efficiently use the space while allowing the user to dive into the individual checks to see whether they passed or failed. For this, an accordion pattern was used to allow the user to quickly view the different categories.
OSS Check is essential to Nearform's open source commitment. It helps them manage their growing number of repositories and ensures they adhere to best practices. This not only helps maintain code quality but also attracts top talent and clients.
